  1. Answer questions with your blog posts

Have you ever heard of Quora? You can get even more traffic your blog post needs by answering questions on Quora. It takes a little work, but it’s pretty simple to do.

  • Search your topic
  • See what questions come up
  • Answer one of the questions
  • Link your answer to your blog post that relates to the question asked

When you aim to be as helpful and informative as you can possibly be with your answers, Quora will work to promote your blog post. Getting even more traffic to your blog post won’t happen if you just drop your link in there and move on. It takes a lot more effort to make Quora really work to get more traffic to your blog post. And since the best answers get the top spots, provide value to prove your answer is top-notch worthy.

  1. Repurpose old blog posts

Repurposing old blog posts is not only smart, it’s super efficient, too. If you’ve been blogging for any length of time, you’ve written some gems. Search for them in your blog archives. Then repurpose those gems by either updating them and publishing them again or turning them into podcasts. Don’t get so focused on new content that you forget about or neglect your old gems. I’ll bet many of them are still relevant today (because they’re evergreen), and they’re just waiting to be discovered by newer followers.

  • Videos

Facebook ads aren’t just for the successful bloggers or large companies who have lots of money budgeted for advertising. They are also for those of us who have only a few dollars to spend each day. Yes, it’s true. For the price of a daily cup of (good) coffee, you can grow your email list quickly using Facebook ads.

Facebook ads can drive a lot of traffic to your blog post. To ignore such an opportunity would be foolish. Why? Because most of your target audience is on Facebook! Target your people who are interested in specific topics or share your ad with people who like other Facebook Pages that are in your niche.

  1. Analyze your blog post data

Analyzing your blog post’s performance tells you what’s working and what isn’t. And that’s what makes analyzing your blog post data one of the most important activities you can do for your business. How do you analyze your data? Set up a Google Analytics account. By measuring your results, you’ll see whether or not the strategies you are using to promote your business are working. And if your Google Analytics Report shows that what you’re doing isn’t working, you can do things differently.

Look at the data every week after you publish a blog post to see how well it did. You can see if it is getting more traffic, how long visitors spent reading your post, and how many subscribed. Your data will show how much your existing traffic is from social media, how many people are linking to your post, and how many are visiting your blog via your teaser email.

  1. Update your best blog posts

This after-publish task is a lot like repurposing old blog posts.

Google loves fresh content. Fresh content determines whether or not Google will display your blog posts in the search results.

That’s why you should update your blog posts that perform well on a regular basis. Updated blog posts continue to provide value to your audience and boost your chances for ranking well in the search engines.

So set a reminder for yourself on your Google calendar. Block out an hour or two to check on your blog post and a number of other posts to see if any of them need updating. And set up the reminder to repeat every year.

When the notification appears in your inbox, check to see how well your blog post has been doing. If it isn’t getting much traffic, you don’t need to waste time updating it. But, if you feel your post is worthy, target a new keyword and republish it with a new and better headline.

If it is performing well, update your post with one or more of the following updates:

  • Share new tips, examples or insights you’ve gained since your blog post was initially published
  • Answer questions that your readers may have asked in the comments
  • Revise outdated information
  • Check all the links and make sure they still work
  • Make sure the resources or tools mentioned in the blog post are still the best ones to recommend
  • If you supported methods that you can no longer support, remove or replace them
  • Add new images, screenshots, graphs, etc.

Once improvements have been made you can mark it as updated, add (Updated) to the end of your headline, add a message at the top of your post, or republish it with the current date.

Don’t hit the “publish” button and stop there. What you do once your post is published is even more important than what you did before you published it.
