Emotion has always been key to branding, and excellent emotional branding sells feelings, not products. Think about the posts you enjoy seeing social media and ask yourself these questions:

  1. Do your posts build a sense of community? Share your story as an entrepreneur. Share photos, facts and tidbits about you, your business and your team.
  2. Do your posts tap into the human desire for family or feelings of love and gratitude to make customers feel like family?
  3. Do your posts make everyone feel valued and important?
  4. Do your posts evoke emotions of pride and achievement that customers will find attractive?
  5. Do your posts ease your customers’ fears with the implication of security from using your products or services?

Share posts that make your readers smile or teach them something as you would with a friend. Scenes from your neighborhood, behind the scenes of your latest project, or your furry friends and family let your readers know you are real, personal and authentic.

Post special events, sales and/or promotions to your social media audience

Share a spur-of-the-moment idea on your Facebook page. Then observe how your audience responds. This is a great way to share a business promotion, sale or special event to determine how to best market your business to meet your customers’ needs. And it costs you nothing but your time.

Make it easy for people to connect with you on social media

You can build a social media presence by sharing your social media platform links in email, on blog posts and on your website.

Be ready to interact pronto

Social media helps you connect with your customers one on one, talk about fantastic customer service!

Be ready to respond to their questions, comments or concerns online and maximize the opportunity to stand out to those in the social media world.

Quick responses show followers you care about their thoughts, positive or negative. It shows you are real, approachable and personal.

Quick attention to and responses on your social media platforms can turn into referrals. If you can get your followers to engage with your content on social media, they’ll help you build your social media presence.

Schedule social media posts and develop good social media habits daily, and be consistent. Building a social media presence is worth your time. Nurture it even if your business and your online audience are small and watch your numbers grow!
