I want a successful blog and I know my clients do, too. Every week I work to improve my blogging and provide my clients’ readers with quality content they want to read and use. In my searches this week, I happened to stumble upon seven tests every blog must pass to guarantee a claim to fame. Who doesn’t want popularity and success when it comes to marketing their business online, right?! I knew I had to share.
7 tests every successful blog must pass
If you’re willing to do the work to build a popular and successful blog, your blog must pass these 7 tests:
- How big is the total market size of your blog? The minimum total market size of most popular blogs is at least 5 million people. Most of the top 100 have a total market size of 200 million or more. Does this blow your mind like it did mine? Stay calm. Read on. This isn’t how many readers your blog has. It’s how many readers it could have if everyone interested in the topic of your blog actually read your blog.
- What are the ages of your target market audience? Thirty- to 55-year-olds make up the majority of blog readers. To build a popular and successful blog, you’ll need to avoid targeting people who are younger than 30 and older than 55.
- Does the topic of your blog change all the time? It should. A blog should be able to generate ongoing interest consistently, week after week. It’s topic must be capable of supporting a popular blog.
- Can you find 5-10 influencers who dominate your blog topic’s space? If your blog is able to generate ongoing interest, you’ll find thought leaders easily. Can’t find any? I suggest you change your blog topic.
- Are you building your audience through guest blogging, interviewing and podcasting influential people and advertising?
- Are you networking with your audience through social media? If your audience is hanging out on a particular social media platform, on the other hand, it’s almost impossible to get any traffic.
- Do you like your blog’s audience? If not, you’ll stop writing when your blog stalls out following a growth spurt. If you don’t like your audience, it won’t be fun to write for them anymore.
Every successful blog must pass these 7 tests, but you must be willing to do the work to reach successful and popular.
