“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” – Mark Twain
Wouldn’t you like to increase your leads, double your income and/or triple your Facebook Business Page followers? I know you would. I have, and I’m going to share with you how you can turn your dreams into realities now, too.
To turn your business dreams into realities and realize the business success you want, start setting goals. Set up doable, achievable goals that are big enough to scare you. If your goals don’t scare you, they’re not big enough. But know this. Just setting goals does not bring results. Getting results takes focus and accountability.
After you set your goals, break them down into doable action steps and write a detailed action plan to keep you focused and accountable as you work to achieve those goals.
And this is how turning your business dreams into realities will get done.
Make plans to turn your business dreams into realities
“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Choose the strategies and systems worth investing your time and money into. Blogging consistently every week (same day, same time of day) and posting each blog post to three social media platforms is just one example (very good example, I might add).
Determine the steps you will take to make your plans work for you
To blog consistently and post each blog post to three social media platforms each week, you must acquire a website and set up three social media pages or accounts. I recommend a WordPress website, Facebook, Twitter and Google+. LinkedIn is a great social media platform for B2B networking, too.
Organize your tasks, daily, weekly and monthly
Schedule every daily task in your calendar.
I break down my workday tasks into money-making activities (MMAs) in grey, business-marketing activities (BMAs) in light blue and customer-management activities (CMAs) in darker blue.
Special dates, personal/business notes and online meetings/webinars are color-coded in yellow.
Personal activities like walking, getting ready for the day, meals and yes, even bedtime are in teal.
To give you a better idea of what I do and how I do it, here’s a screen shot of my Google calendar, just one of my typical weeks:
Tip: Add a notification reminder to each task in your calendar. When the notification notifies you, stop what you are doing and move on to the next task as it appears on your calendar. Watch this video for more on Google calendar love!
Write it down
Write a to-do list for tomorrow before you hit the hay or do this for the upcoming week on Sunday evening, for example. Then prioritize each to-do.
Doable action steps will work well if you schedule them into your daily work schedule and then stick to that schedule. This will require self-discipline. Give yourself room to grow but keep at it. You’ll be totally amazed at how much you will have accomplished at the end of a great day.
Scheduling your tasks in your calendar and writing your to-do lists lets you see where your time is being spent and how much you can or cannot manage in a week, month or year. This will keep you focused and keep you from overwhelm.
Top-priority tasks (MMAs) should take up the majority of your time, but don’t neglect your own business tasks (BMAs). Schedule marketing tasks and do them consistently.
Remember this …
While you are working to turn your business dreams into realities, take the time to assess how much you’ve grown. Write down big and small successes and tuck them away in a Success Jar. When you’re having a bad day or wondering if you’re actually getting somewhere with your business dreams, pull out a few of those successes.
Look at your numbers to see if your business is on track. What is or is not working? Do you need to revamp your strategy? Tweak, eliminate or try something new. What you measure grows.
Finally …
Turning your business dreams into realities takes consistency. Set great goals, make plans, break them down into doable steps, schedule your tasks and stick to it every single day.
