First page of Google

I don’t claim to be a search engine optimization (SEO) expert, but I do have a healthy respect for it. The rules are ever-changing and can be difficult to keep up with. However, I promise you, all attempts to drive traffic to your website are well worth your effort. And I’m here to tell you blogging is your very best option to get your website on the first page of Google.

How does blogging get your website on the first page of Google?

To understand how to get your website on the first page of Google, you must first understand the importance of blogging.

Google search engines love to index quality content (aka well-written blog posts). There isn’t much Google love for just any old content you upload to your website though. To get the coveted Google love, your blog posts must be:

  • Fresh
  • Relevant
  • Keyword rich
  • Well written
  • Consistent (uploaded at the same time on the same day of the week)

The WordPress platform with a simple blog format works best for adding fresh content to your website.

A blogging strategy to get your website on the first page of Google

Google search engines love to index lots of fresh content. I recommend you write a blog post once a month at the very least. Once a week is even better, and five times a week is phenomenal!

A successful blogging strategy also requires a variety of content. Here’s an example of a successful weekly blogging strategy to shoot for:

  1. Add one fresh, original blog post
  2. Add three to four curated and relevant articles throughout the rest of the week.com defines content curation: “Content curation is when an individual (or team) consistently finds, organizes, annotates and shares the most relevant and highest quality digital content on a specific topic for their target market. Curation is a great way to support your created content strategy, publish content consistently and keep track of your favorite information sources.” It must resonate with your audience or meet their needs.

A successful blogging strategy must also include these 13 characteristics of well-written original and curated blog posts:

  • Have a word content length of no less than 300 words
  • Focus on 1 or 2 keywords
  • 60% of its content is fresh, original
  • Words are spelled correctly
  • Use good grammar
  • Are simple to read
  • Have lots of open white space
  • Use headings 1, 2 and 3
  • Have bullet points and/or number lists
  • Are attractive
  • Use relevant images (no smaller than 300 pixels in size) and capture attention
  • Have a plan to engage readers
  • Are Search Engine Optimized (SEO)  (Click here for more on optimizing your blog posts)
